Shakespeare After Dark - The Shake And Bake | The Rio Theatre | Friday, 20. April 2018

Shakespeare After Dark returns with our rocking April show: Ye Olde Shake and Bake. In honour of this mightiest of holidays we will be laying the liquor aside in reverence to the mighty spliff. Featuring a scene from "Two Gentlemen of Lebowski", live swordplay from Affair of Honour, shakin' burlesque from our friends at Geekenders, and live music courtesy of the Shakespeare band, this is a one night stand no one will forget - except maybe our dedicated Dude.

Shakespeare After Dark is the highbrow fusion of Shakespeare served with a side of improvisational mischief. In the first half, you'll witness a scene from the Bard utterly monkey-wrenched by an utterly stoned cast member leaving the rest of the cast to improvise around them. Then, stick around for the second half where the cast lays the it aside to serve a straight up Shakespearean tragedy – based on your suggestions. With a genuinely drunken (or in this case stoned) professional actor volunteering every night, no two shows are ever the same. Side-splitting, raucous, and completely interactive, Shakespeare After Dark will blow you away.

Shakespeare After Dark seeks to introduce a new generation of theatre-goers to the works of the Bard by reviving the raucous, interactive and vibrant nature of Elizabethan theatre with a very modern twist that only the spirit of improvisation can bring, whilst reminding them to to always enjoy Shakespeare responsibly.

Shakespeare After Dark regularly sells out so make sure you get your tickets in advance!
