LIVING YOUR YOGA

For any Yoga Practitioner wishing to live with greater authenticity and understanding

The true value of yoga is not only in what you experience on the mat but also in how you take it out into the world. It is a practice based on a depth and wisdom culled over thousands of years and used for the purpose of inner transformation and awakening.

Living Your Yoga is a five day training with Judith Hanson Lasater, one of the most respected and time honoured teachers of our western era. She brings great expertise and understanding not only of yoga asana, but also of its philosophy and applications in daily life.

In this training we will move toward a deep Self-inquiry with the intent of coming to know our personal Dharma or purpose for this life, and to develop a personal statement that will guide our practice, teaching, family life and our lives in the wider world.

In conjunction with this, we will explore the teachings of the Yoga Sutras, and most specifically the Yamas Ahimsa (non-violence) and Satya (truth) as they relate to how we live in the world and the words we use to communicate. Words are profoundly powerful. Using them effectively with mindful awareness and self-responsibility is an art. We will examine how the words we use with our students and others affect our relationships. How can we constructively ask for what we want? How can we disagree with someone and still stay connected with ourselves and the other? What does it sound like to speak with Satya and Ahimsa?

Judith will draw from her books “Living Your Yoga” and “What You Say Matters” as well as over 45 years as a yoga teacher and spiritual practice.

We will begin each day with an intention and a teaching followed by Active Asana Practice with poses that gradually take you deeper.

The afternoon sessions will focus on Quiet Practice, including Restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation. This afternoon practice will help us learn how to elicit stillness and contentment within us.

ABOUT JUDITH
Judith Hanson Lasater has taught yoga since 1971. She holds a doctorate in East-West psychology and is a physical therapist.

She is president of the California Yoga Teachers Association, and serves on the advisory boards of Yoga Journal and Healing Lifestyles and Spas. Her yoga training includes study with B. K. S. Iyengar in India and the United States.

She teaches yoga classes and trains yoga teachers in kinesiology, yoga therapeutics, and the Yoga Sutra in the San Francisco Bay Area. She also gives workshops throughout the United States, and has taught in Australia, Bolivia, Canada, England, France, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Peru, and Russia.

She writes extensively on the therapeutic aspects of yoga. She is the author of:

1 sticky mat
5 firm, tightly knit cotton or wool blankets
2 x 4″ (fat) foam or cork blocks (note: the thinner 3″ foam blocks do not work for Judith’s type of practice / work)
1 long strap (6′ or longer)
1 eye bag or soft scarf
1 bolster (optional 2 – either cylindrical or rectangular is fine)
