Arguably the most abmitious filmmaker working today, Anderson arrived on the scene at age 26 with his debut feature HARD EIGHT. This Reno-set, minor neo-noir masterpiece opened the door to BOOGIE NIGHTS, a passion project a decade in the making. Now a household name, Anderson opted to lay his heart on the table with the sprawling (and incredibly personal) MAGNOLIA. Wanting to push himself even further, he then embarked upon his most challenging endeavor to date. A 90 minute movie! PUNCH DRUNK LOVE (sadly not screening due to rights issues) was his unique take on the rom-com genre. After a punishingly long 5 year wait, Anderson bounced back with what many consider to be his true masterpiece. The turn-of-the-century saga about greed, power, and oil: THERE WILL BE BLOOD.

Never one to sacrifice vision for accessibility, Anderson's films may vary wildly in terms of genre but have always managed to carry consistent themes (and of course, players) throughout. Family. Redemption. Isolation. Lonliness. Love. Grief. All are on full display in the P.T. Anderson 35mm Picture Show. And we can't wait to share it with you.

  • "Two... four... whatever..." This just in! The Royal will be loosening you up with margaritas before the Friday night screening of BOOGIE NIGHTS. Get your tickets and be sure to arrive early!
  • Pre-HARD EIGHT viewing recommendation: BOB LE FLAMBEUR (d: Jean-Pierre Melville, 1956) Melville's tough-as-nails gambling drama paved the way for the French new-wave of filmmakers like Godard and Truffaut, and still packs a mighty fine punch. Anderson has cited it as a major influence on HARD EIGHT. cc: Bay Street Video
  • When people talk during the film...
  • Pre-HARD EIGHT viewing recommendation: SECRET HONOR (d: Robert Altman, 1984) Philip Baker Hall as a disgraced Richard Nixon with a bottle of scotch, a loaded handgun, and a tape recorder delivering a 90 minute monologue. That's literally the entire movie and honestly what more would you even need? CC: Bay Street Video ;)
  • Are we seriously not getting Phantom Thread until January 12th?!?!?! Please someone say it ain't so...
  • Here it is, folks. The official trailer for the P.T. Anderson 35mm Picture Show. Pass it around! Tell all your friends! 📼✂️: Nathan Boone ** 4-film passes are limited and going VERY fast. Grab yours now before they sell out completely ** https://www.universe.com/pt-retro
  • “We’re all okay now,” Anderson concluded. “But it was hard, it was really hard. There were struggles, but it was struggles that were worth it.”
  • Hey folks. Just a heads up that we'll be premiering the trailer and giving away a couple passes to PTAfest on Wednesday night when Neon Dreams Cinema Club screens Abel Ferrara's certifiably insane KING OF NEW YORK on 35mm. If you haven't already, gaze upon the trailer (courtesy of Nathan Boone) below:
  • Casting Philip Seymour Hoffman as an obnoxious *******, worrying it sounded like a ***** and establishing his famous technique – everything you need to know about PTA’s ‘Hard Eight’
  • 30 minutes of pure delight. The fact that he is so much more interested in talking about other peoples movies than his own is just 1 of the billion reasons I love him so.
  • "I was wrong and he was right"
  • Ticket link is live! Here's the scoop: Single tickets: $12 Non-event additional matinees (BN & TWBB): $10 But for the best value (while supplies last) you can buy a full pass to all 4 films for just $40!
