Going deeper: Addressing spirituality in rehabilitation practice
Dr Kate Jones PhD
Dr Jones is a Senior Social Worker with Royal Rehab currently engaged in a research project aimed at building staff knowledge, skills, confidence and comfort levels in the provision of spiritual care. At this forum she will present the results of her doctoral project which explored the contribution of spirituality towards family resilience after spinal cord injury. She will also provide the results of a survey investigating staff perceptions regarding spirituality and spiritual care. Dr Jones will explain how these projects led to the development of a training module for staff in spiritual care, and the results from that training which was piloted at Royal Rehab.

Prof Siddall is director of the Pain Management Service at Greenwich Hospital, HammondCare and is a conjoint Professor at The University of Sydney. He has devoted the bulk of his time in research to exploring various aspects of pain following spinal cord injury and more recently has had a growing interest in the existential and spiritual aspects of pain, suffering and disability. Prof Siddall will present research findings regarding the contribution of existential and spiritual factors to the experience of pain following spinal cord injury. He will also discuss a program developed by his team that aims to facilitate resilience and post traumatic growth in people living with chronic pain.

During the Sydney siege, Louisa was shot in the foot and abdomen. As a result, she spent months in recovery. Louisa has committed to finding some good out of the tragedy she survived. Hear her story of adaption, meaning making and purpose and the role spirituality has played.
