Christos Pantieras | Am I Worth It? | Ottawa School of Art | Thursday, 04. January 2018

Excerpt from an essay written by Marie-Hélène Leblanc:

Christos Pantieras auscultates the fragility of personal and intimate relationships, revealed in virtual communities. Particularly interested in the loss of humanism that a computer screen generates, he reorients this way of communicating towards installations and artworks that testify to his virtual discussions, and their often abrupt end. Using texts received in his inbox, he transposes his observations, his relationships and his vulnerability.

The artist asks: “Am I Worth it?”

Christos Pantieras is a multi-disciplinary artist who works in sculpture, installation, drawing, and mixed media. He received a MFA in Sculpture from York University (Toronto, ON) in 2015. Pantieras has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at venues such as the Ottawa Art Gallery (Ottawa), the Canadian ******* and Gay Archives (Toronto), Modern Fuel ARC (Kingston) and AXENEO (Gatineau). His work is represented in the collection of the City of Ottawa and in several private collections. He has received grants from the Ontario Arts Council and the City of Ottawa.

  • See you tonight! Help keep the slush away by either: - thoroughly drying off your boots upon arrival - bringing indoor shoes to change into - removing your boots and using the overshoes provided
  • This gives me an idea with the same concept. I will call it "lost in a sea of words".
  • Know before you go: “Am I Worth It?” is a floor installation and visitors are encouraged to walk on it. In an effort to minimize trekking sand outside of the gallery due to wet boots, visitors should be prepared to thoroughly dry their outdoor boots on the provided matts, or remove them and enter the installation wearing ones socks. Overshoes will be available if desired.
  • HAPPY NEW YEARS! Please note that the exhibition opens this Thursday, January 4 but that the OPENING RECEPTION (artist in attendance) is next week on Thursday, January 11th from 5-8pm. Merci!
  • Christos Pantieras gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the City of Ottawa.
  • for some reason, won't allow me to say i am attending, Christos Pantieras!
