Voices of Saanich - Speaker Series | McTavish Academy Of Art | Tuesday, 23. January 2018

All are welcome to the Voices of Saanich Speaker Series, hosted by the Saanich North and the Islands Riding Association for the BC Green Party, SAN-RA.

These events are intended to educate, inspire and connect people around a topic or speaker of interest, regardless of your political affiliations.

Tickets are $20 each, and can be purchased online at

The series will be held on the 4th Tuesday of each month between January and May of 2018.

  • January 23. 2018 SENĆOŦEN Revival – an evening with Jacqueline Jim Jacqueline Jim comes from W̱SÁNEĆ I W̱LEMI (the emerging people and the people of the sea) and lives and works in W̱SÁNEĆ (Saanich Peninsula), the territory of her father’s family. Jaqueline has spent the majority of her young life studying SENĆOŦEN which has led her to become a language activist, teacher, researcher, coach and scholar. Ms. Jim recently completed the Masters of Indigenous Language Revitalisation Program at the University of Victoria writing an auto-ethnographic account of her 22 years of language study. Most importantly for the children, Jacqueline is a grade one teacher at the SENĆOŦEN immersion survival school in Brentwood Bay. She also works for the First Nations Education Steering Committee supporting the implementation of language curriculum in First Nations schools across BC. Join us to learn more about this unique woman and this special school located in our community.
