Ontario Men's Qualifier Tournament

Dodgeball Canada is looking to select the next set of invitees to the National Championship Tournament taking place in Winnipeg, Manitoba April 13th, 14th and 15th.

Ontario's qualifying tournament for the men's division will take place on February 24th, 2018 at The Woodlands Secondary School (Mississauga, Ontario) from 9AM to 7PM.

You may register as a Team or Individual to tryout. The applicant fee for anyone looking to receive an invitation to Nationals is C$40/person. If you're looking to just participate in the tournament, the fee is $25/person.

As per the results of the 2017 census survey, Ontario will be allotted 5 men's teams to be represented at the National Tournament in Winnipeg. Therefore, the top 4 ranking teams of this tournament will automatically receive an invitation. The 5th team will be comprised of 6-8 individuals selected by the designated selection committee. Only individuals residing in Ontario will be eligible to qualify for Nationals at this tournament.

All applicants and participants will have to register individually here: before the deadline of February 4th, 2018 8PM EST. The tournament will cap at 16 teams.

World Dodgeball Federation Rulebook:

Please note that for qualifiers and nationals:
A match is 20 minutes of regular play.
a. A match has two halves, each 10 minutes in length.

UNIFORMS
Qualifiers: It is mandatory that all players on the court to wear a jersey with a number located on the back. Teams do not have to be wearing matching jerseys.
Nationals: It is mandatory that all teams wear uniform jerseys with numbers located on both the front and the back.

You must be at least 16 years of age to participate. If you are under the age of 18, we will need to confirm with your parental/legal guardian permitting you to participate. You and a your parent/legal guardian should send an email to bethel@dodgeballcanada.org to request a permission form.

If you receive an invitation to the National Tournament, you must indicate your intentions to tryout for the National Team Program that is scheduled to compete at the 2018 World Dodgeball Federation World Championships taking place in the Fall of 2018 in USA. This would be a volunteer position in which you must be willing to assume all financial responsibility of funding your expenses that the Program would not be unable to cover. Athletes that qualify for the National tournament may still participate even if they have no intentions of trying out for the National Team Program.

Regarding Video Submissions:

Individuals who are seeking an invitation to Nationals but who are not able to attend the qualifier have an opportunity to submit a video application. Please see requirements below:

1) SUBMISSION LETTER
Applicants will be required to submit a letter to the Ontario Qualifier Selection Committee. In this letter, you should introduce yourself; talk about your dodgeball passion and career and an explanation as to why you are unable to make it to your regional qualifier. Although not required, it might be helpful if you also had a letter of reference from a league member/owner.

2) VIDEO SUBMISSION
The video needs to be at least 10 minutes long of uncut scrimmage footage. My recommendation is within the last 3 months so that we have an accurate idea of where you are in your training. Our head coach and assistants will be reviewing the footage and determining whether they have seen enough to warrant an invitation.

3) SEND PACKAGE AND PAYMENT.
Send the video link / letter to bethel@dodgeballcanada.org .
The applicant fee is $40 CAD that can be e-mail transferred to payments@dodgeballcanada.org or PayPal through our website. There is a 4% charge if you use PayPal.

Applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis taking into account the individual's circumstances. I will be completely transparent in saying that our coaching staff will be highly critical this year of video submissions as we anticipate a highly competitive applicant base.
