The Art Gallery of Alberta is pleased to announce a special edition of its ongoing Community Tour series, in which we invite our community to gather for a Blanket Exercise to learn about Canada’s colonial history and the enduring resilience of the Indigenous peoples on whose land we live.

Participants stand on blankets that represent the land and walk through Canada’s history from an Indigenous perspective. The exercise engages critically and emotionally with our shared history, encouraging empathy and understanding. We will end the exercise with conversation and contemplation in the AGA’s galleries.

This blanket exercise will be led by a team of facilitators from the Musée Heritage Museum, St. Albert, and Michif Cultural Connections.

Please note that this program requires a minimum commitment of 2-3 hours.

Learn more about the history and purpose of Blanket Exercises by visiting the KAIROS: Canadian Ecumenical Justice Initiatives website.
  • Michif Cultural Connections Company will be there as part of the facilitating team. This will be a night of great discussion. Hiy Hiy for having us.
  • How does one register?
  • This is billed as from an Indigenous perspective?! That's a complete and utter lie. If it were, it would not be so watered down and contain so many whitewashed terms. I know I too facilitate these exercise. But I also add truths and omit some terms. I mean seriously, it's coming from the church itself! The very perpetrator' s of some of the atrocities which have been left out of the exercise.
  • Liz Kalisvaart You may know quite a number of people who would love to share this! This is the exercise mom and dad did.
