Marxism, Punk, and Cardboard : Salon hosted by Elaine Weryshko | LOFT 112 | Sunday, 07. January 2018

Join us for our third salon of the season hosted by the ever empowering and elemental Elaine Weryshko.

Marxism, Punk & Cardboard

This is a discussion about why so many people and great minds think theatre is dead. Is It Dead? Is the audience bored? Do we have short attention spans? Has Western Canadian Theatre lost its fire to poke and disrupt? Can you make an effect when you conform to all the regular slick bourgeois theatre styles? As makers, are we constantly presenting something that is too predictable? Theatre making is a practice defined by its playful ability to invent and reinvent states of becoming and the imagination. Many have recognized the ability of theatre to effect social and political change, so then why are so few people interested in engaging with it? Theatre is live, and in today’s world of Netflix, has been granted its largest super power – it is forming right before our very eyes!

This is a conversation about rebellion, about the poetics of failure, about creating new forms of expression, of creating the Epic with little to zero money, and whisking the audience away in the unexpected.
