RYA Race Management / Rules Arbitration Courses - Register Interest | Bristol Corinthian Yacht Club | Wednesday, 01. January 2020

There are three race management courses BCYC  offer and you are asked to register interest by booking tickets and you will be contacted with options for dates and joining instructions. These are practical, fun courses run by expereienced BCYC members.

Club Race Officer
A course setting out basic requirements of a race officer including how to set a good course, applicable rules at the start and finish, actions required before, during and after racing and why providing good racing is important. The course is a one day BCYC qualification, mainly theoretical with some practical elements . 
Mark Laying
Covers how to prepare a mark, how to lay and pick up marks and what is useful information to feed back to a Race Officer. It also covers the principles of more advanced mark laying using GPS. The course is a half day BCYC qualification, split between practical and theory. {Use the Word Doc photo}

Rules Adviser and Arbitration Course
An RYA course designed to show sailors how the Racing Rules of Sailing are set out, to give racing sailors confidence in how to apply the rules and encourage them to become rules advisers for the club. One day theory course using an RYA syllabus.
Are there minimum age requirements?
Yes, to meet RYA and Club safety requirements, the minimum age is 12. Partcipants do not have to be BCYC members
Participants must have completed the club powerboat induction course or have RYA level 2 certification
What should I wear?
With the exception of the Rules Arbitration, We may spend some of the day afloat, so please bring appropriate clothing for the weather - warm waterproofs for the winter, plenty of sun cream in the summer, wet shoes/old trainers and a buoyancy aid (although we can provide one if you do not have your own).
Will there be a lunch break?
Tea and Coffee are provided, but for a day course you should bring a packed lunch. Usually the Club's galley is closed on Saturdays. We take a lunch break of 30 minutes.
What is the cost of the course?
At the current time it is expected tha the cost of the course will be Zip - Nada - Zero - Gratis or Free of charge - take your pick
